Welcome to Eddie Edgar Ice Arena "Learn to Skate" Program.  A rewarding, challenging, and fun way to learn how to skate. Following the SkateUSA model and objectives to teach the fundamentals of ice skating while building confidence and skills through each lesson.   

Learn to Skate (LTS) USA membership is required on annual basis.  The one-time yearly fee is additional to the Registration Fee. Cost is $17.50 per skater. Sign up and Renewal of membership can be obtained by following this link.  Home - Learn to Skate USA

 
Skating Level descriptions are below.  The Registration Link above will allow you to set up an account, register for classes.  The classes are listed alphabetically, please scroll down to find the class descriptions.  Certain classes will require a prerequisite.  

Group instruction skating lessons are offered from ages 4 to 17. Sessions are 30 minutes. 

  • Skating Classes are designed to take skaters from beginning steps through advanced freestyle levels.  

The Snowplow Sam levels are introductory classes for new ice skaters divided into four progressive levels allowing children with no prior skating experience to build confidence while learning the basic skills of skating. These classes are designed to help children, eight and younger develop the ABC's of movement - Agility, Balance Coordination and speed. The ABC's are essential for developing fundamental movement skills and physical literacy. All classes will be taught in a safe and positive environment, incorporating fun and games making class time an enjoyable experience for all.     Designed for ages 4 to 8.

The Basic Skills levels teaches the Fundamentals of ice skating and provides the best foundation for figure skating, hockey and speedskating. Six progressive levels introduce forward and backward skating, stops, edges, crossovers and turns. Upon completion of the Basic Skills 1-6 levels, skaters will be able to confidently advance to more specialized areas of skating. All classes will be well structured with the focus on proper skill development taught in a positive, FUN and social environment. Skaters will progress at their own rate and advance after skill mastery is demonstrated.      Basic Skills 1 is an introductory class for newer skaters designed for ages 8 to 17.

The Hockey Skills levels teaches the Hockey curriculum is designed to teach the fundamentals of hockey skating. In four badge levels, skaters will learn how to be more proficient and agile on the ice. Proper skating techniques for the game of hockey are the primary focus of the levels. All elements will be taught without
a puck. Skaters will learn the basic hockey stance, stride, knee bend, use of edges and other necessary fundamentals to be successful in hockey practices and game situations.      Must have passed Snowplow Sam 1 to enter into the Hockey Skills program.  Hockey Classes are for beginner through more advanced skating.

Freestyle and Pre-Free Skate is comprised of a variety of progressive skating skills, transitions, spins and jumps — all of which build on the previous skill, providing skaters a strong foundation of all elements. These levels will be taught in a positive and interactive group format such as a bridge program, circuit classes or as an introductory training program. Instructors will focus on quality and mastery of skills.      The prerequisites are to have passed Basic Skills 6.

  • Rental is included for each skater.   
  • All Skaters should wear warm flexible clothing, gloves or mittens. Bike or Hockey helmets are required for all Snow Plow Sam and Hockey Basic Skills classes.
  • First Day Procedure: Skaters should arrive at least 15 minutes prior to scheduled class time to allow for check in and preparation process.
  • Specific class/instructor assignments will be made on ice after evaluating each student's level.
